The 2018 remix is the definitive version of a true masterpiece. Generally it sends me over the edge when a record company tries to sell me the umpteenth new remaster of an album I’ve already bought several times, but this is worth it. The music leaps out of the speakers and grabs you by the ears. I would not have believed how much better these albums could sound. Pepper – the remix was a revelation, as if God finally said to us “It’s time I finally let you hear what this glorious album was meant to sound like”. I felt the same way about his 2017 remix of Sgt. It’s like the original recordings had been buried under layers of mud and sludge, and Giles Martin came along with a pressure washer and blasted it all off. The new 2018 remix of The White Album is exactly like that. Leaves on the trees, words on the blackboard, lines you’d put on your mother’s face, stuff like that. It’s like when you got your first pair of glasses as a kid – before you got them you could make out shapes well enough, but once you put those glasses on you suddenly realized how much detail you had been missing in the world around you. If you haven’t heard “Back in the USSR” explode out of your speakers the first time you play the 2018 remix, if you haven’t heard the bass on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” in the new mix, or the cello and violins on “Piggies”, or pretty much any other instrument and any other vocal in the new mix – I have to tell you, the experience may not be life-changing, but it is damn close. I don’t care how many times you have bought this album already, it is money well spent. Scratch that – you are a complete moron if you don’t buy it. Well, actually, you might be a complete moron if you don’t buy the 2018 remix of The White Album. If you owned the vinyl version of The White Album, then bought The White 8-Track, The White Cassette Tape, The White CD the first time, The White CD again for the 2009 remaster, and finally The White iTunes Download, why the hell would you pay good money for The White Album yet again? How many times are you going to buy the same songs over and over again? Are you a complete moron? So here comes Capitol Music once again trying to sell us the same music we’ve already bought several times already. The Beatles – The White Album (2018 Remix)
